Refresh Off to a Great Start
Monday November 14, 2005 / 14 CommentsHot on the heels of the first Refresh Phoenix, we had our first official Refresh Dallas meeting, and it was great. With nearly 50 people in attendance, we were blown away by the turnout.
The next meeting is already scheduled for December 8th @ 7:00 pm. We’re making some improvements for the second meeting as well. including an earlier start time for meeting and greeting and meeting up at a nearby restaurant/bar right afterwards for anyone who is interested in socializing. If you missed the first one, don’t worry, the second one is going to be even better.
Head on over to the Refresh Dallas web site to sign up for e-mails, or check out photos from the first meeting.

It was great meeting you, Garrett. Hope to hang out more in the future. :D
Abel RiosAny chance Refresh will becoming to the Detroit/Ann Arbor area?
James TurnerAbel – Good to meet you as well. It’s always nice to finally put a face with a name.
James – That’s entirely up to you. :) Do you happen to have any free time that you’d want to use to organize the meetings? In other words, we’re starting out as a loosely affiliate set of groups. We’ll be linking to each others web site and using a common name, but other than that, we just stay in touch. In fact, from what I know, Phoenix is even using a different format for their meetings.
GarrettI had a great time – glad to finally meet so many of you.
James – after the Dallas chapter started, some folks in Phoenix decided to start one, and I believe there’s one in Pennslyvania that’s beginning as well.
We’re not just a nomadic band of rogue developers but I doubt there’d be any complaint about you guys starting up another chapter of Refresh.
Mark HurdAnd Garrett beat me to the point by 2 seconds.
Mark HurdThanks for the information. Right now I’m quite busy with school and so forth and was more interested in just attending a meeting then putting one together. I will definitely keep my eye out for a meet up in my area. Hopefully there are developers in my area that are also interested in this type of event.
James TurnerIt’s good to hear that Dallas was a success. I’m really looking forward to the chance of being able to either start up a Refresh Los Angeles, or help anybody who happens to have more time than I do at the moment in setting it up.
Hopefully all of the major areas will be able to have Refresh events so that we don’t have to wait for things like SXSW to get together and interact with each other.
Steven AmetjanHi. I found your blog linked off the Refresh Dallas page. I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed your presentation (and Stephen’s). I’m still new to professional web development, but I’m fascinated by IA and it was great to hear about it from some people who actually put it into practice. Looking forward to future meetings!
(Also, is this entire site Ruby on Rails? Slick as hell.)
Anne K. HalsallAnne – Glad to hear you enjoyed it. As for this site, it’s actually not Ruby on Rails. It’s all done with Textpattern. I’ve been using it for some time now and am incredibly comfortable with it, so I just haven’t had enough motivation to switch to Rails for running a weblog.
GarrettLooks like it turned out well… and look at all that pizza =|. Glad it went well but to follow up James’ comment, maybe it would be a good idea to post a bit about how someone could go about getting something like this in motion. What should we consider doing? What is a no-no? What are the important steps? I guess the idea of holding a meeting is a tad daunting for those who haven’t done it before.
Refresh Vancouver anyone?
Chris MewhortChris (and everyone) – I’d say there really wasn’t much to it. I’ll write up how we went about it and I’m willing to bet Refresh Phoenix could do the same since they took a different approach.
GarrettWhy did I have to go to school in the sticks?
Refresh Ithaca anyone?
Christian MontoyaWhy not…how about a Refresh WNY?
