Great Products
Thursday May 11, 2006 / 8 CommentsI recently picked up a couple of products that have really made me ecstatic, so I thought I’d share.
Canon AW-DC30 All Weather Case
As much time as I spend on the river, at the beach, or by a pool, I decided it was high time to give one of these waterproof Canon camera cases a shot. It’s already gone on two floating trips and captured images that I would have otherwise never had.
My only gripe is that you have to keep the front lens clean or else some of the pictures end up blurry. However, I’ve found that even with a little water or a few smudges, most pictures turn out great anyways. If you spend time near water and hate that you can’t take your camera with you, I strongly suggest checking into one of these.
If you’re curious about image quality, take a look at the photos from our first and second trips to the river. These were taken with a 4mp Canon SD300.
Shure E2c-n Sound Isolating Earphones
I’ve always been one to think expensive headphones are a complete waste of money, but after some discussions with friends, I decided to give the entry-level Shure E2c headphones a shot. I couldn’t be happier.
After a month or so of daily use at work, and a 2 hour flight, I have to say the only problem with the headphones is that they completely shut you off from the outside world. I can’t hear a single thing when I’m wearing them, and it’s pure bliss. Otherwise, they have great sound and are the most comfortable headphones I’ve ever worn.

Wow, those headphones look great! How’s the volume and quality? (Always an issue with earplugs).
Also, if you wear them without listening to music, do they still isolate outside noise as good?
Thanks! :)
OlavOlav – The volume quality has been great. I usually have to keep them turned down because they can get pretty loud. As for isolating noise without music, they’re alright, but definitely not perfect.
GarrettI just bought some E2Cs the other day as well and I’ve been very impressed. The most clarity I’ve ever heard from in-ear phones, and there’s actually bass. Very nice.
Michael MoncurGood photos!
Which bring a question more about floating… I know, wrong post…
It seems from the pics that you get to stay most of the time as a group.
MariaSure, the “rapids” may split you for a while, but for some reason, when I read your post about floating, I thought most of the trip you spent alone, maybe randomly bumping into somebody. However, it seems like the current is tame enough to let you stay in a circle most of the time. Is that right?
Maria – You generally stay in a group. Occassionally the group splits off for a little bit or someone may drift off, but most of the trip is all together as a group. It’s really pretty calm and relaxing most of the time.
GarrettI have similar headphones from Sony, but they do not shut you off completely. I hear a lot less noise from the outside, but sometimes it’s still to loud outside. Did you exaggerate or do you really don’t hear anything if you were these?
Hermann KlinkeHermann – With the music on, I don’t hear a thing at all. No exaggeration.
GarrettI’ve had the E2’s for about an year and I love them. The first time I put them on felt like putting my head underwater – the sound was so completely absent that it was a little disorienting. I commute on the metro here in DC, and it is shocking how loud those trains are. With iPod headphones, you have to turn the volume to about 75% to hear clearly. With the E2’s, I have the volume set between 10-20% and can hear just fine.
