Full Circle
Tuesday August 29, 2006 / 8 CommentsIt’s often interesting how things work out. About six months ago, right around the time Geniant officially acquired Bright Corner, I felt rather burned out on consulting, and was looking for a change of pace.
That led to my decision to join ClickMotive, a small startup focusing on search engine marketing in the automotive industry. I wanted to explore a little bit, and a startup product company in a niche where I had virtually no knowledge seemed like just the right challenge and learning opportunity.
While the challenges with ClickMotive are plenty and even larger ones are just around the corner, I’ve realized that I thrive off of the variety of consulting, where every project involves a new industry or technology or both.
When I left Geniant, I didn’t say anything about the move, because I didn’t want anyone to misinterpret the timing as jumping ship during the acquisition. In fact, it was quite the opposite. I was excited about the acquisition and Geniant, but at the time, consulting didn’t feel right for me. Now, six months later, after a brief hiatus, I’ll be re-joining the team at Geniant.
The tough part for me has always been leaving a good team behind. It’s a lot easier if one job was horrible and the other was heavenly, but that never seems to be the case with me. It was just a matter of figuring out where I work best. That said, both ClickMotive and Geniant are hiring, and while I’m leaving ClickMotive, I honestly can’t say enough good things about the team and where the company is going.
ClickMotive is looking for someone in or near Dallas who is obsessive about markup, CSS, DOM Scripting, and design (View the ClickMotive job posting here.), and Geniant is looking for Tulsa/Oklahoma City, Houston, and Dallas-based IA’s and User Experience Designers. (Send resumes for the latter to designjobs at geniant dot com.)
In related news, since the variety of consulting experiences and learning opportunities was the main source of inspiration for this site, I imagine things will really be picking back up around here in the near future.

Keith JacobsOh great, we have to deal with your extremely logical ass again? Not to mention your huge ego. I’ll make sure the Fiji water is chilled to exactly 39 degrees. ugh. :)
